Harlem of the West

Artistic House
Founded: 2024

Harlem of the West is the Artistic House through which Afatasi transforms San Francisco’s public transportation into collectible cultural design.

Drawing from the visual language of Muni transfers, Fast Passes, bus routes, railway systems, and the everyday transit ephemera carried by generations of San Francisco’s Great Migration families, Harlem of the West creates limited-edition works that preserve the lived experience of moving through the city.

Each annual collection commemorates significant cultural observances through a new colorway while retaining the same core design language. Every design is released once, in one colorway, before giving way to the next year’s edition—creating works that are both limited and timeless.

By transforming familiar transit graphics into contemporary collectible objects, Harlem of the West preserves the visual language of how San Francisco’s Great Migration families moved through their city.

This Artistic House is one of the Self-Sustaining Practices of The Afatasi Universe, helping sustain its Celestial Calendar through the creation of enduring works, intellectual property, and cultural institutions.
