This Afronaut Suit, is entitled America’s Outta Pocket.

It explores our relationship to the nation — to identity, value, and reparations. To the labor that built this country,
and the reality that repair has never taken place. You see classic Americana symbolism: corporate graphics, red, white, and blue, fragments of American identity.

But “outta pocket” here speaks to economics. To labor that built wealth. To histories that were foundational, but rarely credited. This suit imagines the Black body as an Afronaut navigating that system — moving through a country shaped by our labor, while still negotiating access, equity, and return.

The pants in the photo are called Solar Flare Belles. They begin with a slim pant extended into a flared lower leg in a contrasting fabric — a silhouette I return to throughout my work.

The Afronaut helmet frame was welded by me and woven, with scrap studio materials — salvaged elements of future possibility. These forms recur in my practice, carrying Afrofuturist design language
