7 Kwanzaa Principles: Stay Lit! is part of The ’Fro-Liday Series, a collection of hand-drawn holiday works from The Afro Block Party that reimagines seasonal traditions through the characters, humor and visual language of Afatasi’s illustrated world.
Centered on the Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of Kwanzaa, the work assigns a different Afro Block Party character to Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba and Imani. The characters gather atop an anvil emblazoned with “STAY LIT,” transforming the principles into a playful celebration of collective purpose, creativity and cultural inheritance.
The work was exhibited in Spirit of the Season: A Community Art Exhibition at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco.
