San Francisco Belles & Beauxs

Carnaval & Juneteenth Observance

Observed During Carnaval San Francisco & the San Francisco Juneteenth Parade
First Observed: 2024

San Francisco Belles & Beauxs is an annual observance celebrating the public traditions, hospitality, and cultural expressions carried west by America’s Great Migration families. Rooted in Afatasi’s belief that culture is strengthened through participation, the observance brings generations together to learn, embody, and celebrate traditions that continue to shape Black American life.

Through regalia, procession, music, line dancing, and collective performance, participants honor the Southern cultural traditions that were cultivated in the American South and carried to San Francisco through migration. By appearing together in the Carnaval San Francisco Parade and the San Francisco Juneteenth Parade, the collective affirms that public celebration remains one of the most enduring ways culture is practiced, witnessed, and inherited.

San Francisco Belles & Beauxs invites each generation to step into a living tradition—where dress, movement, music, and fellowship become acts of cultural continuity.

This observance returns each year as part of the Celestial Calendar of The Afatasi Universe.
